5 Tips for Fall Networking

Summer has officially come to an end. Many of us are falling back into our work routines and gearing up to attend more networking events near me. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, corporate professional, in a service industry, or a student, here are some tips to help you get the most out of your fall networking opportunities from ProNet, the Professional’s Referral Network.

Meet Earlier in the Day

The arrival of autumn means shorter days and longer tights. It also means that a lot of people would rather be indoors and at home by the time the sun goes down. Instead of the usual after work drinks and appetizers event, try attending an early-morning networking event. Pro Net meets every Thursday morning at 7 am at the Crossroads Diner 17194 Preston Rd #101, Dallas, TX 75248.

Make Networking Fun Again

Networking doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, anyone who desires a connection with others who share their same interests can benefit from networking. From alumni groups to a group of weekend bikers, find a group that gets you excited to talk to others and you just might meet people that want to buy exactly what you’re selling, or knows someone who does. Remember, networking is all about creating meaningful connections, you never know what will happen from there!

Stand Alone to Stand Out

Some of my favorite and most memorable networking events near me took place at art galleries, universities, and even rowing clubs. I like to take time prior to or following a meeting to explore the area where the event is being held. Some of the best conversations can be had with people who are admiring the same artwork. You’ll soon find that taking time for yourself at an event can attract a different crowd of people.

Use the Internet to Your Advantage

When you meet someone interesting and get their business card or name and number, try Google-ing them to see what you come up with. The Internet is a great way to gather more info and learn more of their story. You might find something more fascinating or inspiring than you originally anticipated, or you might find that you have something in common or know the same people. Either way, you’ll have a new conversation starter the next time you run into them or reach out.

Consider Your Puzzle Pieces

The book Holy Intimacy of Strangers by Sarah York talks about how we exchange “puzzle pieces” with strangers we meet. Sometimes, we get a puzzle piece that matches up with someone else. A networker should be able to recognize when the person they meet would benefit from being introduced to a colleague. Build your relationships by strengthening your existing ones through networking and creating connections.
